It chronicles the recruitment, glory years, notorious time-out fiasco, cultural impact and the scandal that followed these ecounts the remarkable story of University of Michigan basketball players Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juan Howard, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson, and chronicles their success in the NCAA tournaments of and As the two seasons went on the fab five went through a lot of scrutiny, especially because all five of them were black.

Sure the fab five occurred awhile back but it still is important till this day. I actually work at the school where I first checked the book out of the library and I’ve been frustrated quite a few times as I have browsed through our collection and found that the book has been weeded out.


Although the whole team did it, Rose was pointed out because he did it the most. Another thing that i like about this book was how he described the coaches and how they felt algom this recruiting period.

The fab five was 5 kids that were all from around the country and lived very different lifestyles. That was the least competitive of the three meetings between the two teams, although it had the most at stake.

Inthe University of Michigan basketball team recruited arguably the best class to date, and at the time, nobody had seen anything like it. When his was out of timeouts, he called a timeout which is against the rules. Besides that, they were called out for their play and what they wore.

The author, Mitch Albom, wrote this book to teach and entertain people. This is my favorite book. Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski did not respond until after both teams were eliminated from the tournament, but he noted that he felt the statements were insulting and gave specific reasons why each of the Fab Five members did not go to Duke.


I was bitter that I had a professional athlete that was my father that I didn’t know. The book covered how even though they were look up to, they made many dumb choices such as play madden in a crack house or allowing their agents to pay them which is one of the biggest rules to break and you can possibly never play in the league again.

More distance would be needed to really understand the Fab Five as the cultural sensation that they were. But if you’re not into sad stories I wouldn’t read it because the book talks about the players lives that weren’t very fwb because of how poor they all were. My favorite part of the book is when they make it to all the national championships and they play tough teams and they say that the atmosphere is really different from any other games they have played.
